Siemens Simatic S5 è un sistema di programmazione e controllo per attività di automazione industriale. È stato sviluppato da Siemens ed è utilizzato in molti impianti di produzione in tutto il mondo. La serie di controllori S5 è composta da vari modelli, tra cui S5-90U, S5-95U e S5-100U.
I controllori S5 sono programmati in Step 5, un linguaggio di programmazione basato sul testo. Step 5 permette agli utenti di creare programmi che consentono il controllo di macchine e processi. La programmazione avviene in un ambiente di sviluppo integrato (IDE) che consente la creazione, la modifica e il test dei programmi.
I controllori S5 sono collegati a componenti hardware speciali come CPU, schede di ingresso e uscita digitali, schede di ingresso e uscita analogiche e moduli di memoria. Questi componenti hardware consentono l'acquisizione di segnali da sensori e il controllo di attuatori come azionamenti di motori, valvole e interruttori.
I controllori S5 sono noti per la loro affidabilità e robustezza e sono adatti ad ambienti industriali esigenti. Sono ampiamente utilizzati nell'industria automobilistica, alimentare, chimica e farmaceutica per automatizzare e controllare i processi produttivi.
